Springtide of London
Classic Yacht under 40 feet
Springtide was designed in 1956 by Alan Buchanan as a private commission as a comfortable and long legged cruising yacht for a family.
Built almost entirely of teak by R J Prior & Sons at Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex, in the mid 70s she was ‘updated’ and rig extended with a 5′ bowsprit by Moody’s in the Hamble.
In the mid 80s she dragged her anchor during a storm and ended up on the rocks with a large hole in the port side. She was acquired, for the scrap value of the lead keel, by a young couple as a home for their family and over 6 years was virually rebuilt single handed while ashore in Exeter dock and took their family to explore Europe’s Atlantic coast.
Having been recently acquired by another couple, hopefully her adventures will continue for many more decades.
