Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta was honoured to receive the Junk Rig Association Medallion at our prize giving following our Corinthian Sail-in-Company on 25th May 2025.
Penny Jolley was pleased to express the thanks of the organising committee for the recognition received through the award of the medallion. It means a lot to us and is a testament to wonderful times we have had together during recent Heritage Regattas.
The junk rig boats have become an integral part of Regatta now; at one stage this year we had 7 entries, making our largest class.
The junks sails make a beautiful contrast in Torbay, especially the red of ‘Fly’, blue of ‘KRKA’ and rainbow of ‘Serenity’, to the tan sails of our Brixham trawlers and luggers.
Interestingly the junks sail very much in the same way as the gaff rigged boats and so the same courses conveniently suit both.
The sailors that bring these boats are all such good company too; we appreciate all the effort made to get to Brixham and the camaraderie they share with other crews.
Thank once again to the JRA for this honour and we look forward to many more happy hours sailing together with the ‘Junkies’.
